- Capacity: how much the tanker may need to remove.
- Travel distance: local operators can have very different mileage to the same property.
- Access: vehicle size, gates, tracks, gradients and parking restrictions matter.
- Hose run: long or difficult pumping distances may affect the job.
- Urgency: routine work is easier to schedule efficiently than emergency attendance.

How to make quotes genuinely comparable
Tell every operator the same tank size, access position and urgency. Check whether VAT is included, whether the quote assumes a maximum volume, whether there are mileage or hose-length conditions and what happens if the tank contains more than expected.
Cheapest is not always the only consideration
Availability, registration, clarity of the quote and confidence that the operator can physically access the tank are all relevant. An unrealistically low quote that changes on arrival is not a successful comparison.
Can routine customers reduce costs?
Potentially. Planned work gives operators more opportunity to fit a collection into an existing route. Cesspit users and other frequent customers can also build a predictable emptying schedule rather than repeatedly booking at the last minute.
What if I do not know the tank capacity?
Submit the best information you have. Installation paperwork, previous invoices, model details, the property size and photographs can all help narrow it down. Do not open or enter the tank simply to measure it.
